Sliač welcomed its first chartered flight upon reopening the airport after major reconstruction on the 16th June 2011
We currently operate international flights to Burgas, Bulgaria, Antalya and Bodrum in Turkey and also to the largest tourist destination in Egypt (Hurghada).
We are working on a long term project in association with recognised Slovak travel agencies to further increase our charter services.
Scheduled flights do not currently operate from Sliač; however, we are in the process of seeking such services with potential business partners.
Sports aircraft regularly use Sliač airport for training purposes, particularly for trainee pilots We frequently promote AIR DAYS, further details of which can be obtained through our airport.
Sliač airport provides military aviation services, predominantly for the Armed Forces of Slovakia. We also provide services for international allies as and when required. International military aviation is usually transport, cargo and personnel.
Since 2004, Slovakia has been a member of NATO. As such, the volume of military aircraft has significantly increased. Military aviation using Sliač, operate strictly under civil aviation regulations.
The airport also plays a crucial role in the implementation of the transplant hospital program in Banska Bystrica, because of fast and operational service in this area and co-operation across Europe.

Sliač airport consists of a single runway, direction 18/36. There is a single parallel taxiway and connecting taxiways for access to both tracks. Runway (18/36) is 2400m long and 57m wide and is a 53 PCN strength cement and concrete surface construction. Direction 36 is equipped with light and radio navigation for precision approaches, as per category 1 of ICAO.
The apron has 8 stands. Simultaneous parking on the apron consists of:
1 aircraft – Antanov 225 or similar or
2 aircraft - Airbus 310 or similar, or
3 aircraft – ATR 42 or similar
The weight capacity of the apron is 24 PCN and the surface material is asphalt and concrete.
A brand new passenger terminal was constructed in 2011 and is directly adjacent to the apron. Access is via the departure lounge which is equipped with multiple check-in desks and state-of-the-art security clearance. A refreshments centre is situated within the departure lounge.
Fire rescue service
The on-site category 5 fire and rescue service fully meets the requirements of the necessary regulations as documented in: ICAO annex 17. Upon request, it can be increased to category 8.
We store 100,000 litres of JET a-1 aviation fuel. The operating system meets all the requirements for the protection of water against harmful substances. Distribution of aviation fuel is provided by mobile tankers which can carry a capacity of up to 15,000 16,000 and 18,000 litres (with the pressure and gravity implementation).
